In March of 2006, three citizens were asked by Sheriff Weaver to be part of an advisory group on issues related to operations, budget, and community safety programs. They were educated on the structure of the Sheriff's Office to include the operations of the four divisions so they could better understand the complex framework of a Sheriff's Office before giving their opinion. This group then provided valuable feedback to the Sheriff's Command staff after performing a detailed review of Sheriff’s Office operations and budgets. Since this small group was effective, the Sheriff sought a larger group of county residents that would represent a wider cross section of citizens who live in all the various urban and rural areas of Douglas County.

This new group of citizens were empanelled in mid-2007 as the Public Safety Advisory Committee (PSAC). This group of approximately 30 members from across Douglas County –  including Highlands Ranch, Franktown, Roxborough, Castle Pines North, Parker, Littleton, Sedalia, Castle Rock, and Larkspur – is extremely involved in Sheriff’s Office functions and in their local communities. The PSAC has met monthly since that time and have been briefed by command staff and unit leaders about public safety issues, staffing, funding, and community safety programs.  Several working subcommittees have emerged – such as the legislative, budgetary, facilities, and municipal partnerships subcommittees – tackling specific issues separately from the full committee.

The PSAC meets on the second Wednesday of the month at the Justice Center at 6:00 p.m. join us to hear about issues from Sheriff's Office staff and to provide citizen feedback about the issues discussed.
