Aurora Man Arrested for Stealing a Tow Truck and Leading Deputies on Pursuit in Southern Douglas County

NARRATIVE: DOUGLAS COUNTY, CO – On January 24, 2019, at around 8:30 pm Aurora PD notified Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch that they had a stolen white tow truck from their jurisdiction that was entering Douglas County and they were requesting our assistance.
Deputies spotted the vehicle taking the Larkspur exit onto westbound Spruce Mountain Rd. One deputy started to follow the tow truck and when he attempted a traffic stop, the truck failed to stop, went through two stop signs and sped up. The truck continued south on Spruce Mtn Rd towards County Line Rd. Other deputies set up stop sticks south of their location, at Palmer Divide Rd and I-25. Palmer Lake Pd was notified in case the truck entered their jurisdiction. The deputy following the truck terminated his pursuit due to road conditions.
The truck continued into Palmer Lake. Deputies met up with Palmer Lake PD. At the same time Palmer Lake Dispatch received at call from a citizen about a suspicious white tow truck parked in front of their house. When Deputies and Palmer Lake officers arrived on scene they saw a male running from the tow truck. A perimeter was set up and K9 was used to track the suspect. The male was located hiding under the deck of one of the houses nearby. A white male, 27 years old, was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Douglas County Detentions Facility and booked in on the following:
1st Degree Agg Motor Vehicle Theft F4
Vehicular Eluding F5
Reckless driving MT2
Obstructing Government Operations M3
Drove Vehicle without Valid Drivers License MT2
He is being held on a $50,000 bond.
At this time, the suspects name and mug shot will not be released due to the active investigation.
