Commerce City Man in Custody after Fatal Traffic Crash this Morning

A Commerce City man has been taken into custody this morning after an early morning car versus motorcycle crash that left one man dead.

Around 6:20 am this morning, dispatch received multiple calls about a traffic crash, at the intersection of County Line Rd and Piney Lake Rd (Powhaton Rd), where a car had struck a motorcycle. As deputies were responding to the scene, it was relayed that the driver of the car had left the scene on foot. The rider of the motorcycle, an adult male, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Douglas County Coroner’s Office will positively identify the victim as well as the official cause and manner of death.

As the deputies were investigating the crash, the driver of the car came back to the scene. Manuel Frias-Cabrera, 06/30/90, was taken into custody, and will be transported to the Douglas County Detention Facility where he will be booked in on the below charges:

18-3-106(1)( c ) F3 Vehicular Homicide
42-4-1601 (2) ( c ) F3 Failed to remain at the scene after accident
18-18-403.5 (2) F4 Unlawful possession of a controlled substance
42-4-1402 (2) ( c ) MT1 Carless driving resulting in death

Frias-Cabrera will be held on a $50,000 bond.

While this is still an open and active investigation, traffic investigators do believe that drugs and/or alcohol may have been a factor.

At this time, due to the active investigation, a mugshot will not be released.
