DCSO investigating acid device in Highlands Ranch park that injured one child

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an acid-type device that exploded near a young child around 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in Dad Clark Park off of Mcarthur Ranch Road in Highlands Ranch. The child was taken to the hospital and has been treated for minor injuries.

Detectives say the device was created inside a plastic bottle. The child and four other friends he was playing with at the park saw the bottle on the basketball court and touched it.

DCSO detectives searched the park. No other devices were found. Detectives are trying to determine who made the device and left it in the park.

We believe this is an isolated circumstance, however out of an abundance of caution, we have directed our deputies to search all of the parks in the immediate area.
