Douglas County Coroner’s Office Positively Identifies Death of Highlands Ranch Juvenile

Today, Douglas County Coroner Jill Romann confirmed the identity of 10-year-old Emma Benavides as the juvenile female found yesterday at the residence on Crestmore Way, Highlands Ranch. The Coroner’s Office has completed an autopsy on Emma, with preliminary findings of multiple gunshot wounds being the cause of death. Manner of death pending further investigation.

The death of Emma Benavides and Cristi Benavides continue to be investigated by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the Douglas County Coroner’s Office. No further information is available at this time.

Today, at approximately 7:29 a.m., deputies responded to a residence on Crestmore Way, Highlands Ranch on a death investigation. The bodies of one adult female and one juvenile female were located deceased inside the residence.

The scene was immediately secured by deputies and an investigation was initiated.

At 3:20 p.m. the Douglas County Coroner’s Office identified the adult female as, 39-year-old, Cristi Benavides, who was temporarily residing at the residence on Crestmore Way. Notifications have been made to the next of kin.

At this time we do not believe there is any threat to the community. This is an open and active investigation; no further information will be released at this time.
