Douglas County Sheriff’s Office to Hold Third Annual “Christmas for Kids”

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in partnership with the Highlands Ranch Wal-Mart, is sponsoring the 3rd annual ”Christmas for Kids” event. The event will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2014, at the  Store located at 6675 Business Center Dr., Highlands Ranch, CO 80130 (C470/Quebec) starting at 9:00AM.

The “Christmas for Kids” program invites children identified by Douglas County Human Services and the Douglas County School District to shop with Douglas County Sheriff Deputies. Donated gift cards are provided to each child which gives them the opportunity to purchase holiday gifts.  Once the children arrive at the Wal-Mart store, they are paired with Douglas County Sheriff Deputies on their shopping spree.  The goal of the program is to provide less fortunate children a chance to receive holiday presents and to build a relationship with local law enforcement.

Generous contributions for this event have been received from citizens of Douglas County, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Douglas County Government employees and Wal-Mart.

Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock states “The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is once again honored to have the opportunity to brighten the holiday experience for these families and our deputies truly enjoy shopping with these children.  This program allows Wal-Mart and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office to come together, and help make the holidays a little brighter for several deserving children and families.  It’s important that children have positive interactions like this with local law enforcement.
