Currently, the unit consists of a sergeant and four investigators. The primary function of one investigator is domestic violence cases. Another investigator’s primary function is missing/runaway persons and juvenile cases.
Additionally, the unit handles cases involving homicide, assault, robbery, and vehicular homicide. This unit also handles the follow-up on natural deaths and suicides.
The Crimes Against Persons Unit Sergeant and Investigation Section Lieutenant are responsible for “cold homicide case” investigations.
Many of the cases associated with this unit are high profile and require lengthy investigations.
Investigators are required to attend yearly training in investigative techniques and interviewing skills. Some of the community related functions include domestic violence task force, community service videos, and SHODI (Serious Habitual Offender Directed Intervention).
Special Victims Unit
Currently, this unit is comprised of a sergeant and three investigators. Investigators within this unit have extensive training in the investigation of sensitive cases and interviewing victims of these emotion-evoking cases.
Investigators within this unit work cases involving sexual assault, child deaths, abuse of the elderly, sexual assault of children and child abuse.
This unit has a strong history of community involvement. Members of this unit consistently provide public awareness programs and work closely with Human Services and the school district on issues involving identification and reporting of sexual assault and abuse cases and working with our Special Investigations Unit in reference to sexual violent predator issues.
