A Douglas County Deputy was injured and a male suspect was shot during a suspected drunk driving investigation.
Shortly before 11:00 pm on 02/05/2010, a suspected drunk driver was reported traveling southbound on I-25, at around Happy Canyon Rd. Deputies spotted the car traveling westbound on Wolfensberger Rd and attempted to stop it. The driver would not comply and turned northbound on Caprice Dr and eventually stopped behind a commercial building on the north end of the road.
While deputies were attempting to contact the suspect he suddenly put the car in reverse. One deputy sustained injuries when the suspect was backing up. The injuries were not life threatening. The driver then drove forward towards another deputy who was at the front of the car, the deputy shot at the suspect, striking him. The injuries of the suspect were not immediately known. Both the suspect and the deputy were transported to separate Denver Area hospitals.
The 18th Judicial District Critical Incident Team was called in to the investigate the incident. As policy, the deputy involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave.
The names of the suspect and the deputies involved are not being released at this time.

The location of the incident occurred at 185 Caprice Ct in the jurisdiction of Castle Rock. The Castle Rock Police Department will be handling the criminal investigation. The 18th Judicial District Critical Incident will be handling the officer involved shooting.
The suspect has been identified as Reese Slade, 03/31/66, last known address from Elizabeth, CO. He remains in the hospital, unknown status on injuries. The officer injured was treated for his injuries and released from the hospital, early this morning. Charges on suspect are unknown at this time.
