On March 15, 2010, Emily Petersen, age 23, pled guilty to one count of False Reporting to Authorities, which is a class 3 misdemeanor. The felony charges of Forgery and Attempt to Influence a Public Servant were dropped in exchange for the guilty plea. Petersen admitted to falsely accusing a Parker Police Officer of sexually assaulting and beating her during Parker Days in June 2009.
Petersen was sentenced to the following:
- 2 years probation
- 100 hours of public service.
- Alcohol treatment and monitoring
- Restitution in the amount of $6043 to cover the cost of the investigation.
- Letters of apology to the Parker Police Officers and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
“Hopefully the sentence that was handed down will be a lesson to those that think falsely reporting a crime to authorities is not a serious issue. This shows that false reporting is taken serious and these types of cases not only do a disservice to actual victims, but also waste law enforcement resources that could be better directed elsewhere,” stated Sheriff David A Weaver.
