The Substance Abuse Coalition of Douglas County will be hosting a Town Hall meeting in Highlands Ranch on April 13th, 2010, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. “Youth Alcohol Use: The State of Highlands Ranch” will be held in the Wildcat Auditorium at Southridge Recreation Center, 4800 McArthur Ranch Road in Highlands Ranch, and will feature the following:
- Keynote Address by former Broncos player, Wade Manning
- Accurate Highlands Ranch-specific statistics on youth alcohol use
- Law enforcement data regarding liquor sales violations in Highlands Ranch
- Information about teen brain development & alcohol use by Betty Ford Center
- Community input about where to focus prevention / intervention efforts
The information provided is intended for all members of the Highlands Ranch community, including parents, business owners, teens, law enforcement, substance abuse service providers, school personnel, elected officials, alcohol vendors, court-related personnel, youth center staff, recreation program personnel, and anyone else interested in the topic.
The Town Hall meeting is part of a nation-wide series of community meetings sponsored by the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). During the months of March & April, similar gatherings will occur across the country and Highlands Ranch will be part of it. Future Town Hall meetings will occur in Parker, Castle Rock, and other Douglas County communities.
This event, the Substance Abuse Resource Fair, special guest speakers, and other activities are brought to the community by the Substance Abuse Coalition, a project of the Douglas County Youth Initiative in collaboration with community partners such as Douglas County School District, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Pikes Peak Counseling, Betty Ford Center, 18th Judicial District Diversion, Running Creek Counseling, CeDAR, Narcotics Anonymous, Families @ Five, Cornerstone Counseling, Senate Bill 94 Pre-Trial Supervision, the Juvenile Assessment Center, and many more.
