Sheriff Dave Weaver and officials from the Douglas County School District want to warn parents and their driving teens about recent car thefts, from two Douglas County High Schools.
Since the middle of September there have been four cars stolen from two different high schools in Douglas County. On 09/10/2010, a car was taken out of the student lot at Douglas County High School, located at 2842 Front St in Castle Rock. There have been a total of three cars stolen from the parking lot at Chaparral High School, 15655 Brookstone Dr, Parker, two on 10/15/2010, and one on 11/08/2010. Two of the stolen cars have since been recovered, found in the Metro Area.
Douglas County Detectives will be working with the East Metro Auto Theft Team to try to determine if these auto thefts are related to any other thefts in the Metro Area. At this time, due to this being an open investigation, the methods of how the cars were taken as well as the types of cars taken are not being released at this time.
The School District is working with their security staff as well as the School Resource Officers to increase patrols in the parking lots. They encourage all staff and students to be vigilant about locking their car doors and to make sure valuables are taken out of the vehicle or kept out of sight. It is also extremely important that if anyone, staff or student, sees something or someone that is suspicious in the parking lots or around the school property to make sure they report it immediately.
Again, these are all open investigations and no other information about the cases is available at this time.
