In my September letter in the Briefing Room I took the opportunity to reflect on my 30 years in law enforcement and to give credit where credit is due – to the men and women of my office. This month, as I wish all of you a warm and wonderful holiday season, I want to also express my deep appreciation for the generosity shown in support of our Christmas for Kids program. This year’s program provided gifts, hope, and love to the largest number of families and kids since the program began over a decade ago. On Christmas this year 82 Douglas County families and 219 children will wake up to a much happier morning because of the generosity of our community. Little guys will be trying out their Lego skills and little girls will be holding their dolls and delighting in their new ‘dress up’ clothes. The traditional Christmas dinner will be simmering in the oven thanks to the grocery store gifts cards that all of the families received. This will be a happy, happy morning for these families and kids. Families who have fallen on hard time this year can take a little time to reflect on the season, all smiles and laughter. Those of you who made all of this possible should shed a tear. Tears of happiness, for the joy that you have brought these folks.
God bless America and God bless Douglas County, Colorado.
