NARRATIVE: Prom season is upon us and graduation is right around the corner. Sheriff David A. Weaver wants to remind everyone of the consequences to those under the age of 21 who consume alcohol, or those older than 21 that purchase, posses, distribute or aid in providing alcohol to underage people.
Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) will be stepping up our enforcement efforts during the week of April 23rd, 2012. DCSO Special Investigations Unit (SIU) will be conducting compliance checks at various businesses that have a liquor license in Douglas County. Volunteer underage person(s) will accompany plain clothes detectives and attempt to purchase alcohol. The purpose of these checks is to ensure businesses and their employees are compliant and follow their training in checking identifications of those that attempt to buy alcohol.
SIU detectives will also support those businesses that fail the check with the necessary training and/ or information needed to assist with future compliance with the law. Each business is required by their licensing agreement to have training for their servers on checking identifications and what to do if someone uses a fake ID or has an underage ID. The Douglas County SIU detectives offer this training free to Douglas County businesses.
