On 12/28/12 at approximately 12:28 Douglas County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the 9000 Block of Windhaven Drive, Parker, CO 80134, in reference to a suicidal subject with a gun at a residence.
Initial Deputies arrived on scene and secured a perimeter and tried to communicate with the adult male, who was armed with a shotgun. The male would not put his gun down and allow officers to assist him.
Douglas County regional SWAT teams, to include negotiators, were requested to assist with the call.
Over a period of hours, several attempts to defuse the situation were used to get the male subject to comply with officers and put the gun down. This included negotiations to no avail.
The male subject sustained a self-inflicted gun-shot wound and was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries (no additional information related to injuries are available at time of this release).
Due to the circumstances of this incident Douglas County Sheriff’s Office requested the 18th Judicial Critical Response Team (CRT) to conduct an impartial and thorough investigation. (CRT is made up of the 18th District Attorney’s Office and Law Enforcement Agencies within the 18th Judicial District). (This is DCSO Standard Operating Procedure).
The identity of the male subject is not being released at this time.
No shots were fired by any Law Enforcement Officer.
No injuries to any emergency personnel on scene.
This is an open and active investigation and no further comments will be released, pending the conclusion of the CRT investigation.
