On May 29, 2013, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will begin concrete roadway paving operations for the US 85 widening project between Cook Ranch to just north of Louviers in Douglas County. Paving operations will continue until mid-September.
The project is reconstructing and widening 1.3 miles of US 85 from two (2) lanes to four (4) lanes with concrete pavement. The work includes two bridge replacements, raised medians, curb and gutter, new drainage systems, detention ponds, and realignment of Highlands Gulch Channel. When this segment is completed, Highway 85 will be a four-lane highway between Highlands Ranch and North Louviers.
General Traffic Impacts:
- Work days and hours are Monday through Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- Speed limits through the work zone are reduced to 40 mph and traffic fines are doubled through this area.
- Intermittent traffic stops for truck crossing and access/egress to and from the project site. Minimal delays can be expected.
- Short term changes in access/egress points to adjacent properties. Flaggers and/or traffic control devices will be in place to guide the public and property owners.
Partial funding for this project was provided through the Colorado Bridge Enterprise, a government-owned business entity within CDOT. The Colorado General assembly created the statewide Bridge Enterprise via Senate Bill 09-108, also known as FASTER (Funding Advancements for Surface Treatment and Economic Recovery). The purpose of the Bridge Enterprise is to repair, reconstruct, and replace bridges designated as structurally deficient or functionally obsolete, and rated “poor” by CDOT.
Dondlinger & Sons Construction of Wichita, Kansas, is the contractor for this $7.9 million project, which is scheduled to be complete by late September 2013.
