Due to the extreme dry conditions and fire danger, Douglas County has had 2 fires within the last 3 days that were started from discarded cigarettes. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to please put out cigarettes in a safe manner. The Sheriff’s Office has a zero tolerance policy for individuals that choose to discard cigarettes carelessly and all violators will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Sheriff David A. Weaver stated “Please be assured that we are enacting these laws for the safety and security for all residents residing within both incorporated and unincorporated areas of Douglas County. We appreciate your cooperation during these extreme conditions.”
