On 08/06/13 at around 5:00 am a neighbor (volunteer firefighter) reported to Metcom of a residential structure fire in the 2400 block of N. Highway 67, Sedalia, CO.
Emergency responders from West Douglas, Franktown, Castle Rock, Jackson 105 and South Metro Fire Departments responded along with Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
Access to the house was difficult due in-part, to a narrow roadway and water tenders being used to transport water (no hydrants are in the area).
The residential structure was a total loss.
Excavation equipment had to be called in to assist with mop-up, so that firefighters could get to the hot spots and extinguish the fire prior to a search of the residence taking place.
Once the fire was extinguished and it was deemed safe for fire fighters and investigators to enter, an adult body was located deceased in the residence.
The cause and origin of the fire is still under investigation and being investigated by South Metro and West Douglas Fire Departments as well as Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
Preliminary information does not indicate foul play.
The identity and cause of death will be released by the Douglas County Coroner’s Office when positive identification is made.
This is still an ongoing and active investigation and no further information is available at this scene.
