Douglas County Sheriff and Staff are Shaving Heads to Help Find a Cure for Kids’ Cancer

StBaldricksMarch 25th, 2011 will mark the 5th year the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has sponsored the St. Baldrick’s Foundation in raising funds for childhood cancer research. Within four years, as a community, we shaved 621 heads and raised over $300,000 in donations.

On Friday, March 25h, 2011 at 2:00 pm, Sheriff Weaver, commissioned deputies, members of the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, Littleton, Castle Rock, and Parker Police Departments, as well as other police, fire, public service agencies, civilians, and Colorado Mammoth players will be shaving their heads to support the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.  St. Baldrick’s raises money and awareness globally for childhood cancer research through volunteer-driven events that pair great fun with this worthy cause.  These participants will be shaving their heads in front of cheering supporters to experience for themselves one of the most stigmatizing public aspects of cancer; losing one’s hair from chemotherapy treatment. Those involved have raised funds from sponsors, all of which will go to St. Baldrick’s.

This event honors Isabella Ackerson, the daughter of Detective Niles Ackerson of the Sheriff’s Office.  Isabella lost her battle with infant ALL/MLL Leukemia on December 27, 2006. Isabella was only six months old.  We will also be honoring Chase Kluth, son of Littleton Police Department’s Sergeant Arlan Kluth and DCSO’s Chief Holly Nicholson-Kluth.  Chase lost his battle with cancer in 2002 when he was 15 years old. Several other local children who have fought these terrible diseases will be honored as well.

Once again there will be special guest athletes and local “celebs” joining us for this important event.

Again this event will be held on Friday, March 25th, 2010 at 2:00 pm. The event will be held in the Douglas County Event Center, located at 500 Fairgrounds Dr., Castle Rock, CO 80104. It is located one mile east of Interstate 25, exit 181, off of Plum Creek Parkway.

All media is invited to this important event.  Please let me know if you plan on attending so we can make space available to the media.
