Greg Black is a native of Colorado. Greg followed in his father’s footsteps and started his own career in Law Enforcement in Aspen, Colorado as a 911 dispatcher. As a dispatcher, Greg was in charge of the Emergency Medical Dispatching. From there, Greg became a Police Officer for the Aspen Police Department before transferring to Vail Police Department. At the Vail Police Department Greg became a Field Training Officer, Firearms instructor, Rifle instructor and started on their Special Operations Group. Greg was hired by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in 1999. Greg pursued his career goal of becoming a K-9 handler by volunteering as an agitator with the Unit.

During that time, Greg became a SWAT Operator, tactical handgun instructor, ASP instructor, Less Lethal instructor, Special Impact Munitions instructor, Distractionary Devices instructor and Law Enforcement Edged Weapons Tactics instructor, Finally in 2003, Greg’s dream came true and he became a K-9 handler and was paired up with PSD Axel.

Axel is a Belgian Malinois. K-9 Axel is certified in both patrol and explosive detection. They are assigned to the SWAT team and assist many other specialty units such as CDT and SORT.
