Douglas County Sheriff Dave Weaver began his public service career in September 1981 as a Detentions Division deputy with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.  He rose through the ranks working as a Corporal in the Patrol Division and Detention Division, a Sergeant in the Detention Division, a Lieutenant in the Internal Affairs Unit, and as Undersheriff responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Sheriff’s Office.  On November 7, 2006, he was elected Sheriff by the citizens of Douglas County.

Sheriff Weaver serves the community in many different ways. He regularly attends homeowner association and town meetings where he is able to interact with the community, discussing questions and concerns that the citizens of the County may have.  He is a Kiwanis and Rotary member.   

Sheriff Weaver is a strong supporter of community education programs for the public.  Programs such as the Alive at 25 allow the Sheriff’s Office to give back to the community in which we serve.  In  2001, he adopted the Alive at 25 program to be taught by Sheriff’s Office personnel to the teens of the community.  The program, allows teens a curriculum based class, that discusses driving; the peer pressures that surround driving and the consequences of poor decisions.  The program has become so successful, that it is now also taught in the high schools.  Other community programs that he has been involved with include the Citizen’s, Senior Citizens and Youth Academies, which allow residents of the community to actively participate and learn about the Sheriff’s Office and law enforcement.  Building relationships with the community allows the Sheriff’s Office to become more effective in our commitment to building a safer and stronger community.   

Sheriff Weaver has remained actively involved in mentoring members of the Office.  He has provided leadership, management and direction to members at every level so they may better and more effectively serve the citizens of the Douglas County.  Sheriff Weaver was a foundation in the planning and construction for the Robert A. Christensen Justice Center. 

As the Douglas County Sheriff, he oversees the Highlands Ranch Public Safety Training Institute and is a Board Member for the Highlands Ranch Training Foundation, Rocky Mountain HIDTA, Ending Violence Against Women, and the South Metro Drug Task Force. He is a member of the County Sheriffs of Colorado, FBI National Academy, National Sheriff's Association, Chiefs of Police, National Narcotics Officers Association, Leadership of Douglas County Alumni and Southwestern Police Institute Alumni. He graduated with honors from the FBI National Academy, Session 216.
