Mitigation efforts seek to reduce damage to people, property and the environment caused by wildfires. This is a proactive response to fires that has proven economical, efficient and effective. The DCSO Office of Emergency Management (OEM) supervises the Douglas County All Hazard Mitigation Unit.
The purpose of this unit is to mitigate disasters before they happen, and respond to disasters when they do happen.
An added benefit to accomplishing mitigation projects is the close relationship with OEM, DCSO Wildland Fire Handcrew and the County’s Wildfire Migitation Program. The WFH conducts biweekly training days with the All Hazard Mitigation Unit. Wildfire Mitigation activities closely resemble Wildfire Suppression activities, these units achieve quality training, while rehearsing for wildfires, and simultaneously accomplishing mitigation projects on County owned property that benefit Douglas County residents.
