Vehicle Impounds

Vehicles that are impounded by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office are only released to the registered owner of the vehicle during normal business hours, Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

All registered owners must provide proof of ownership and present a government issued, photo ID (driver’s license or state ID) prior to obtaining documents from the Sheriff’s Office which will allow you to get your car out of impound.

Proof of ownership is either: a valid title, bill of sale or current registration.  If you do not have acceptable documents the Sheriff’s Office will NOT release the vehicle.

Prior to the vehicle being released you will be required to pay tow and storage fees for the towing of your vehicle.  The Sheriff’s Office does NOT accept credit cards. Please bring a preprinted check, cash or certified funds.  No temporary checks are accepted.

Failure to claim the vehicle and satisfy the fees may result in the sale of your vehicle (C.R.S. 42-4-1804).
