ARREST WARRANTS
Arrest warrants are court orders mandating law enforcement officers to arrest and bring before the court the person who is the subject of the warrant. The Warrants Section of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office is responsible for serving arrest warrants issued by the Douglas County Courts. Arrest warrants can be the result of a criminal investigation conducted by a law enforcement agency or task force operating in Douglas County, a defendant's failure to appear at a court proceeding, or a defendant's non-compliance with imposed court conditions. Deputies serving in the Warrants Section are specially commissioned by the Colorado Bureau of Investgations to make arrests anywhere in the state of Colorado.
WARRANT SERVICE ON ADULTS
After an arrest warrant is served (after a person is arrested on a warrant), the arrestee will, in most cases, be transported to the Douglas County Detention Facility to complete the booking process. After the booking process has been completed, and if the court has deemed it appropriate to allow the arrestee to post a bond, the arrestee is then allowed to post a bond. A bond is monetary or property collateral held by the courts to encourage the arrestee to complete the court process. If the arrestee does not comply with the conditions of their bond, the collateral may be retained by the courts.
WARRANT SERVICE ON JUVENILES
Arrest procedures are the same for juveniles, except that juveniles, in most cases, will be transported to the 18th Judicial District Juvenile Assessment Center, which is located at the Arapahoe County Justice Center, 7375 South Potomac Street, Centennial, Colorado.

FUGITIVE LOCATION AND APPREHENSION GROUP (F.L.A.G.)
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office participates in the Fugitive Location and Apprehension Group (F.L.A.G.). F.L.A.G. was formed in January 2000 as a cooperative effort to address some of the more than 21,000 outstanding felony warrants in the state of Colorado. Partially funded by an initiative through the Rocky Mountain High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area, F.L.A.G. is mandated to focus its investigative efforts on fugitives who have outstanding felony warrants for drug or violence-
related crimes. In the first year of operation (2000), F.L.A.G. members were involved in 473 arrests. In 2001, F.L.A.G. investigators cleared 520 felony warrants.
F.L.A.G. is presently comprised of investigators from the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office, Aurora Police Department, Colorado Department of Corrections, Denver Police Department, Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, and the United States Marshals Service.
The head of each participating agency, or their designee, acts as a member of the supervising Board of Directors. The Board meets quarterly to review the recent activity of the unit and address issues that affect the operation of the Task Force.
F.L.A.G. also produces the Colorado 20 Most Wanted list, which is an effort to solicit information from the public on fugitives with a Colorado connection.
WARRANT RESOLUTION
The most common arrest warrants issued by the courts are “Failure to Appear” warrants, primarily for missed traffic court dates. These are easily resolved by coming to the Douglas County Justice Center located at 4000 Justice Way in Castle Rock and bringing all relevant paperwork. The issue must be resolved in person. Check in at the First Appearance Center (F.A.C.) located on the main level of the court facility. The court clerks will attempt to obtain a hearing time with a judge to resolve the warrant. Arriving at the F.A.C. by 8:00 a.m. will increase your chances of being seen by a judge that day. The F.A.C. will not set hearing times by phone.
