Agencies Team Up to Test Response to Mass Casualty
On Oct. 15, Rocky Vista University (RVU) in conjunction with its Public Safety & Security Department, the Parker Police Department, the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, South Metro Fire Rescue, and several other public safety agencies will be holding a mass casualty exercise at the College at 8401 S. Chambers Road in Parker from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Media should arrive by 8:15 a.m. and report to media staging in the south parking lot of Rocky Vista University. The exercise will begin at 9 a.m.
The community can expect a large number of emergency personnel and traffic in that area during the exercise. This is an exercise so that emergency personnel from different agencies can practice scene safety, evacuating injured victims in a timely manner and interagency communication in the event of a mass casualty incident.
This is a great example of public private partnership with Rocky Vista University hosting and sponsoring the planning and execution of this exercise. This immersion exercise provides their medical students with the opportunity to experience helping patients in a mass casualty incident as well as providing the University with a practical look at its emergency preparedness.
