Daycare Provider Arrested for Child Abuse Resulting in Death of 3-month-old

NARRATIVE: DOUGLAS COUNTY, CO – On August 26, 2020 at approximately 2:28 p.m., deputies were dispatched to a medical assist for a 3-month-old female in the 14000-block of Lexington Drive, in Douglas County.

While deputies were enroute to the location they were advised that South Metro Fire Authority had transported the baby, unconscious and not breathing, to a local hospital. The baby was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

Throughout the course of the death investigation, it was determined that the 3-month-old was under the care and supervision of day care provider, AMANDA ANDERSON (DOB 06/29/1986). It was also learned that ANDERSON had been issued five (5) cease and desist orders through the Colorado Department of Human Services prior to this date and two (2) additional cease and desist orders since.

On October 13, 2020, an arrest warrant was issued for ANDERSON for child abuse resulting in death (class 2 felony).

At approximately 4:20 p.m. on October 13, 2020, ANDERSON was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Douglas County Detention Facility. She is being held on a $50,000 bond.

This is still an active an ongoing investigation. No further information will be released at this time.
