Douglas County Experiencing a Trend of Vehicle Trespasses – UPDATE

On September 9, 2015 Douglas County Deputies arrested a juvenile for possession of a stolen vehicle. At this time the juvenile is not connected to the increase of vehicle trespasses and vehicle thefts in Douglas County.

On July 16, 2015 around 0336 hours deputies responded to a vehicle trespass in progress in the 1100 block of Jesse Ct. Highlands Ranch.  Arriving deputies parked their patrol cars blocking the roadway and walked towards the reported suspect’s vehicle. When they got halfway across the street the vehicle started its engine and accelerated rapidly towards the deputies. Deputies had to move out of the vehicle’s path, they gave verbal orders to stop but the vehicle continued.

The suspect continued to flee, almost running into the deputies’ patrol cars. The Suspect jumped the curb and drove around their cars. The deputies returned to their patrol cars and attempted to locate the suspect. They were able to find the suspect’s abandoned vehicle in the 9000 block of Sylvester Rd Highlands Ranch. The vehicle was confirmed stolen out of Arapahoe County.

Detectives were able to identify the suspect as 27 year old, Terry Smith.

Detectives are filing criminal charges of: motor vehicle theft, 1 degree criminal trespass, menacing, vehicular eluding, all are class 5 felonies, and multiple traffic violations.
