Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Deputy was Hit by Suspected DUI Driver

NARRATIVE: DOUGLAS COUNTY, CO – A Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputy was hit, while in his patrol vehicle, by a suspected drunk driver.

On September 26, 2022, at around 10:45 pm, a Sheriff’s Office deputy was parked in his department Tahoe on the shoulder portion of Lincoln Ave at Havana St waiting for a tow truck to take a vehicle he had impounded. His emergency lights were activated.

A Chevy 3500 pickup truck, being driven by an adult male from Parker, crashed into the rear of the deputy’s patrol Tahoe. The impact caused the patrol unit to be pushed into the lanes of traffic on Lincoln Ave. Even though the deputy did sustain minor injuries, he was able to get the driver out of the truck and move him safely out of the lane of traffic.

The deputy and the driver of the truck were transported to a local hospital as a precaution. The deputy was released shortly thereafter, with minor injuries. The Lone Tree Police Department will be handling the DUI and crash investigations. The driver was issued a summons for Careless Driving resulting in Injury, DUI, Failure to present Evidence of Insurance, and Open Container.
