Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Responds to Call about Numerous Shots Fired

On 02/03/15 at approximately 5:00 am Douglas County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Foothills Park at the intersection of Riddlewood Lane and Riddlewood Court, Highlands Ranch, CO, in reference to a shooting complaint.

Deputies arrived on scene and contacted an adult male with a gun. Deputies tried to communicate with the adult male, who was armed with a rifle. The male would not put his gun down and allow officers to assist him.

Several attempts to deescalate the situation were used to get the male subject to comply with officers and put the gun down. This included negotiations to no avail.

The male subject sustained a self-inflicted gun-shot wound.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office requested the 18th Judicial Critical Response Team (CRT) to conduct an impartial and thorough investigation. (CRT is made up of the 18th District Attorney’s Office and Law Enforcement Agencies within the 18th Judicial District). (This is DCSO Standard Operating Procedure).

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is working with the Critical Response Team and the Douglas County Coroner’s office in this investigation which is on-going.

The identity of the male subject is not being released at this time and will be released by the Douglas County Coroner’s Office upon proper identification of the male and notification of family.

No shots were fired by any Law Enforcement Officer.

No injuries to any emergency personnel on scene.

This is an open and active investigation and no further comments will be released, pending the conclusion of the CRT investigation.
