Father Arrested for Child Abuse Resulting in Death of 3-Month-Old Daughter

NARRATIVE: DOUGLAS COUNTY, CO – On May 10, 2017, deputies responded to the 5300-block of Hospitality Place, Parker, for a medical assist of a 3-month-old baby that was not breathing and CPR was in progress.

Three-month-old Aliah Howatt (DOB 02/13/2017) was immediately transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

Subsequently, through interviews and evidence collection, investigators believed to have evidence that supported that James Howatt (DOB 04/11/1991), Aliah Howatt’s father, is responsible for the death of his daughter.

The 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office proceeded by Grand Jury in December 2017. On January 4, 2018, the Grand Jury came back with an indictment for Child Abuse (Knowingly/Reckless cause death) 18-6-401(1)a, (7)a(I).

On January 10, 2018, a warrant was issued for Howatt. He was taken into custody by Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Investigators at his home without incident.

Howatt is currently being held at the Douglas County Detentions Center on a $25,000 bond.
