Inmate who Attempted Suicide In Douglas County Detention Facility Has Died from Her Injuries

NARRATIVE: DOUGLAS COUNTY, CO On May 25, 2020, at approximately 1:13 pm, while conducting a routine welfare check, a deputy discovered Inmate Michelle McGarry, age 54, attempting to commit suicide. Lifesaving efforts were immediately started. Jail medical staff was on scene within minutes and Castle Rock Fire was also immediately dispatched.

McGarry was transported to the hospital where she remained in ICU until she succumbed to her injuries today, May 29th, at around 2:30 pm.

McGarry was in custody on Domestic Violence charges and 3rd Degree Assault.

The official cause and manner of death will be determined by the Douglas County Coroner’s Office.

This is an open and on-going investigation and no further information will be released at this time.
