Occupants of Suspicious Vehicle Open Fire on Douglas County Deputies

NARRATIVE: DOUGLAS COUNTY, CO – While Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputies were investigating a suspicious vehicle, two people inside the car started shooting at them. The deputies returned fire, killing both. One deputy sustained minor injuries during the incident.

Shortly before midnight on October 25, 2022, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputies were patrolling the RTD Lincoln Station parking lot at 10203 Station Way in Lone Tree, when they saw a suspicious black Kia with no license plates.   While they were further investigating the situation, the occupants inside the car started shooting at them. Deputies returned fire. The two sole occupants inside the car were found deceased. The car was confirmed to be stolen out of Pueblo.

A Code-Red Notification was sent out to the nearby residents, asking them to stay inside.  The shelter-in-place order was lifted at 2:00 am. The parking garage remains closed as the investigation is still ongoing.

The Douglas County Coroner was called to the scene and will officially identify the two deceased.

The 18th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team will be investigating the shooting portion of the incident while Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will be handling the criminal investigation.

Sheriff Spurlock will be giving a media update at the scene, Station Way and Park Meadows Dr, at around 11:00 am.
