Cold Cases

As of 2018, there are 24 cold cases of unsolved homicides, missing people, and unidentified people. The Detective assigned to the Cold Case Unit has been actively following up on several leads throughout the past year and a half and additional suspects have been excluded in several of the cold cases.

The focus of the unit is to re-organize all of those unresolved cases and begin to re-investigate them with the assistance of a Cold Case Review Team. The group has attended training and has received cases to work on. We look forward to working with them throughout the year and into the future.

New technologies have been used to try and find suspect(s) and persons of interest and then either eliminate them as suspects or further investigate them.

With the enactment of HB1020, law enforcement agencies were required to submit sexual assault kits that met the criteria established by the Colorado Bureau of Investigations. The first phase of kits was submitted to the CBI in February 2014. Leads developed from the submission of the kits are being investigated.

The Cold Case Unit  is comprised of a Lieutenant and a Detective and also uses the service of a volunteer and the Cold Case Review Team.
